367 / Mateo Mantilla: THE BRANCH

Submission #367 | Mateo Mantilla: THE BRANCH — “ The corner of Congress & Drayton St. (Savannah, GA) served as a parking lot located next to BB&T. The emptiness of this space made the surrounding buildings considerably bigger and heavier which made this side of Johnson Square a very uncomfortable place to be. The contrast between the lightness and comfort in the square and the heaviness of the site inspired this project, which has the intention to unify the opposing concepts of heaviness and lightness through its architecture and materiality.”

353 / Rotem Guy: Gilbert & George House‬‏

Submission #353 | Rotem Guy: Gilbert & George House‬‏ — “Gilbert & George House is an interior decoration project inspired by the British Pop artists Gilbert Passmore and George Proesch. The couple is known, among other things, for their big scale photographs, titled ‘THE PICTURE’. Those works deal with the complex relations between the individual – the frame – and space, while examining interrelations between documenting reality and creating fantasy. Decomposing their works and identifying the different components enabled the creation of a formally, graphically and functionally empowered explicit space.”

Submission #247 | Lambert David: Refuge-ground — “Thanks to this new architectural concept, 25,000 shelters have been built on the coast of the Bay of Bengal, giving shape to a network of habitable offshore salt platforms raised above sea level. These human groups are gradually reconquering abandoned sectors, sheltering new forms of lacustrine societies, allowing life to emancipate in this vast salt water ecosystem.”

201_James Frolow: Lucidity

Submission #201 | James Frolow: Lucidity — "This task involved observing tango dancers and sketching the voids inbetween each figure. From this lines were manipulated in Rhinoceros to obscure  curved forms. These forms were then sliced to acquire a faceted object which could be interpreted as a building. Students were given a brief to place this object into the North Terrace context to serve as an architectural school for the University of Adelaide."

140_Axel Alexander Olson: The Chicago Watershed

Submission #140 | Axel Alexander Olson:  The Chicago Watershed — "The Chicago Watershed Cultural Center is situated at a critical point along the main branch of the Chicago River and its Northern Riverwalk. In an initial study of the site's context, the sonic and luminous spaces of the alternating bridge-bay condition on the newly revitalized South Riverwalk revealed an inverse relationship between sound and light during the day and night."

136_Catalina Guerra: Comme des Garçons Boutique

Submission #136 | Catalina Guerra: Comme des Garçons Boutique — "The concept that has led the design of this project is the ambiguity between the interior and the exterior objects. The ambivalent volume is created by the juxtaposition of the spaces created by the different objects. The super-component composite shell, as well as interior objects, ground condition, and articulation/tattoo work together to create the overall shape, but at the same time, they work against each other, creating uncertainty regarding the parts that integrate the discrete object provoking a sense of mysterious depth beyond the superficial qualities.
