This idea of a predominantly passive collection changes when buildings are involved because a work of architecture can be argued to be an existing archive. This understanding further shifts the perceptions concerning the manner in which archives are presented.”
Submission #303 | Hazem Talaat: [Re]thinking [Re]drawing : [Un]finished Architecture — “[re]thinking [re]drawing architecture: is a visual study based on photography research, on the potential value of [un]finished buildings in Mediterranean countries specifically Southern Italy and Spain. Where incomplete ruins act as an invitation to manifest unorthodox thoughts of completion, utilizing new experimentation on a technique of [re]drawing.”
Submission #302 | Nicolò Sabbadin, Andrea Bulloni, Matteo Ciabattini and Marco Papagni: Marsopotamia — The first interplanetary civilization, however, is timeless, except for the one from which it was conceived: the age of the pioneers. The projection of space thought as a projection on a physical dimension aims at transforming the unknown hostile and impracticable space, into a measurable and possessed orientable space. Space and time are the benchmarks of our world and their meanings are both contained in architectural shapes.
Submission #301 | Alessandro Luporino: Dizionario Illustrato di Architettura — “The illustrated dictionary of architecture is part of a larger project called Q: set [den [SE] t. Drawings / Thinking / Unintentional taste accumulation about Architecture], which emphasizes the importance of drawing not only as an element of communication, but also[above all] as an ‘instrument of knowledge and understanding reality’.”
Submission #300 | Matteo Serra, Mirko Santoni, Andrea Ruggieri: Kaira Kora — “The Griot safeguards the community’s tradition that is conserved through the usage of the words. This poet’s tale is accompanied by an instrument called “Kora”. A sacred place should play a similar role and become the “Instrument of Worship”. The project’s aim lies in the belief that a single holy place can host different religions (muslims, catholics and animists), a single instrument able to emit different notes of a same chord, a peace’s harp: Kaira Kora.”
Submission #299 | Daniel Avilan: Occupy Vitkov; The Czech National Brewery — “The National Monument at Vitkov in Prague was once built to celebrate Czech statehood. However, both the Nazis’ and the Soviet Army took possession of the monument in order to propagate their regime. After the war, the monument was once again taken back by the Czech people and used as a museum. The isolated and unused monument remains an unpleasant reminder of the history the Czech people have faced.”
Submission #298 | Federico Monti and Francesco Mura: Galaxy Tower — In one of the most famous drawings in the world, the Vitruvian Man by Leonardo Da Vinci is symbolically represented as the most sublime of unions, the one between art and science. There are the figures of the square and the circle that refer respectively to the Earth and the universe, placing at the center of this union the pulsating and signifying heart of the work: the man.
Submission #297 | Yu Kono: Deferential Form — “ The giants of the Tech industry have emerged as a significant presence in the Bay area of San Francisco. Many of them are located in the suburban regions of Silicon Valley where they are in the process of building large, symbolic corporate headquarters. The Silicon Valley sites of these headquarters lack the public amenities of traditional cities that are deemed highly desirable to their workforce”
Submission #296 | Elia Zoppi, Caterina Francesconi and Valeria Fruzzetti: Dialogues | Antonio Lupi Headquarters — “The desire to establish a relationship with the few but clear elements that characterize the landscape has placed itself at the base of the compositional logic. Proceeding with the definition of the intervention, the intention was to bring the dialogue to the human scale, favoring the meeting between people and different figures through the interaction between the spaces.”
Submission #295 | Marco Nieto: Wav_ES — “The concept and purpose of Wav_ES is to bring attention and awareness of the importance of conservation, as well as making strides towards preserving and restoring water in natural ecosystems, as well as bustling urban areas.”
Submission #294 | Emily Martin: Créer Cavalier | Habiliter Les Femmes — “Créer Cavalier | Habiliter Les Femmes is a project which aims to contest and combat the long-standing gender inequalities of France through empowering the women of Marseille using equestrian activities to build physical and mental strength as well as confidence and self-esteem to proclaim and provoke the evidently patriarchal societal state of the City.”
Submission #293 | Sergey Nadtochiy: Seductive Ecologies — “Because of large number of public buildings including universities, hotels and hospitals, Bloomsbury has one of highest wasted heat rates in London. Therefore this area has been chosen to test new ways of heat resources use and mediation proposed in this project of an art school. The site of the project takes space of former district heating system on Coram street next to Brunswick centre and is marked by 40m high concrete chimney, underground Piccadilly line which crosses the site is also used as one of heat resources.”
Submission #292 | Michael Willhoit: Spelunk'd — “Within a 50'x50'x50' cube, two playful programs combine and collide to create an arena for leisure. Cave diving was the inspiration for Spelunk'd, with caverns and crevices both inside and out, punctuated by folding forms of relaxation. The space hangs above the ground with irregular vaults, but invites with punctures in its flow.”
Submission #291 | Dinorah Martinez Schulte: Flextructure — “This project is dedicated to making an innovative proposal, redesigning a new strategy and structural system totally adaptable to any building scale and conditions, where the computational tools and technology are used to optimize a solution to the problems caused by a natural disaster. generate impact not only in architecture, but at the social level, by a new search for design strategies and structural criteria.”
Submission #290 | Justin Heu: Density n Void — “A brief focus into designing a new urban mixed use building... residential, commercial, office space. Redesigning what we formally know about a building and warping it inside out. Residential units are encapsulated into tunnel like voids that face each other and can hide away with privacy smart glass.”
Submission #289 | Enrico Capanni and Enrico Lamacchia: Archetype of Memory — “Identity image and visual-geographic reference, these are the two values that are attributed to the church of St. Giovanni in Castellare. From this, a project that goes on on a binary route that is simultaneously able to take charge of the symbol that the community attributed to the building that used to be there before and to maintain the connection with the territory.”
Submission #288 | Tzu-Jung Huang, Chia-Wei Chang , Mu-Hwai Liou: Pilgrimage of Everyday Life — “The project mainly tackles water-related issues and explores the ideal prototype of an egalitarian community center. By introducing the fog catcher technique, it proposes to create a multi functional gathering place for casual interaction, knowledge sharing, rites and so on.”
Submission #287 | Robin Andreas Koch: THE BRAIN — “A proposal for the new main library of the city. It includes a huge self functional high bay warehouse which saves up to millions of books. Full automatically robots grab the books and pass it to the visitors if they want to. The main design of this library work with a completely new way of thinking how a library can work.”
Submission #286 | Anderson Beuting: Chapel Project — “Upon request for a renovation and amplification of an existing chapel, that could later be used independently from the building it was attached to, for weddings and celebrations to take place, the concept was to create a small piece of art in the middle of the city of Joinville.”
Submission #285 | Ahmad Baydoun: Escape to an Alternative-Power Archive — “This study examines the nature of territories in the region of Lebanon that are governed by alternative systems in contrast to state-based structures of governance. In these territories, the state has minimal-to-limited influence on the social, political, and economic activities of such given areas, since certain non-state actors exert a structure of governance based on their political agenda.”
