Interface P6
Design Statement:
The design is a replacement for a Folie in Tschumi’s Parc de la Villette. The near-connection of existing paths on site P6 informed the design theme, as well as the sociological idea that strength, paradoxically, lies in Weak Ties - chance encounters with those not in our inner circles - due to a greater volume of novel information flowing between those channels.
Interface P6 celebrates the brief interaction of two worlds: the bookstore and the maker’s lab. A shared relaxation space provides opportunities to bridge the two worlds, enhancing visitors’ understanding of each other and building empathy across lines.
Sustainable strategies implemented include double-skin walls, raised ventilation floors, and green roofs. Perforated zinc cladding refers to its local use on most Paris rooftops, tying the design intimately to its location.
