Submission #346 | Felix Wilson: Tower III — “Loch of Skene, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. A proposal to re-engage the public with a site of natural beauty. The inspiration for the project came from summer work at Loch of Skene, the site of the proposal and having a direct experience of what infrastructure the area lacked. The name comes from the fact it is 3 units based on the classical proportion stacked on top of each other, the roman numerals and ode to antiquity. For an area of such rich biodiversity which supports a vast range of flora and fauna Loch of Skene has little status, let alone public facilities.”
Submission #329 | Dan Whelan: Song of the Sea — “The proposed chapel rests on the foundations of the restored Pessegueiro island fort - Portugal, its simple white brick form providing a clear focus point from the main coastline. The restored fort provides a space of transition between the natural landscape and the inner space of the chapel while providing panoramic views across the entire site. Within the chapel spaces are enclosed, intimate and spiritual in nature, inviting visitors to take a moment for introspection and quiet contemplation.”
Submission #326 | Zoe Russian Moreno: Ka' Poy Yepü — “Canaima National Park - Venezuela, is one of the largest natural reserves on the planet and possess definitive characters that differentiate it from other natural reservoirs. It’s soil dates back to the Precambrian period, between 1.5 million to 2 billion years old; which makes it one of the most ancient rock formations in the world's geochronology. These unique formations called “Tepuis” are a kind of table-top mountains with 90-degree vertical walls.”
Submission #298 | Federico Monti and Francesco Mura: Galaxy Tower — In one of the most famous drawings in the world, the Vitruvian Man by Leonardo Da Vinci is symbolically represented as the most sublime of unions, the one between art and science. There are the figures of the square and the circle that refer respectively to the Earth and the universe, placing at the center of this union the pulsating and signifying heart of the work: the man.
Submission #293 | Sergey Nadtochiy: Seductive Ecologies — “Because of large number of public buildings including universities, hotels and hospitals, Bloomsbury has one of highest wasted heat rates in London. Therefore this area has been chosen to test new ways of heat resources use and mediation proposed in this project of an art school. The site of the project takes space of former district heating system on Coram street next to Brunswick centre and is marked by 40m high concrete chimney, underground Piccadilly line which crosses the site is also used as one of heat resources.”

Submission #267 | Elise Francis: Santuario alle Edicole Votive — “Secret Genoa waits patiently to be discovered. Over an eight-month period I have endeavored to explore Genoa’s well-kept (and sometimes unkempt) treasures. My design methodology is an architectural form of narrative collage inspired by the writing of Italo Calvino and Bruno Schulz. The city is understood as a dense space of intertwined and overlapping stories that can be (re)written using alternative narratives that reveal essential qualities of the city without relying on what may be considered strictly factual.”
Submission #186 | Munjer Hashim: Plant 34 — Plant 34 is a project which takes on the real-world scenario of drought and future water shortage that is a current issue in New York State and creates a hybrid program which solves the issues conceptually. The project argues that in the future, an increase in population and yearly droughts will place such a strain on the current water reserves, that the need for other sources of water within Manhattan must be established.
Submission #185 | Eman Mohammed: Mixed Use High-rise — A tower is an element that rises vertically accentuating its horizontal elements of floor levels while concealing its true vertical identity. So why not highlight a tower’s vertical identity and lessen its horizontal one.
Submission #178 | Mark Melnichuk: McGill Architecture — "The project combines both the lookout and bathing station into one formal gesture rising out of the water. The height of the lookout tower is determined by the former water level of the Dead Sea, before industrial and agricultural use of the water caused a water level drop of a drastic 1m/year. The lookout provides views of the dry sea bed nearby, framing the effects of the water level drop on the Dead Sea region."
