367 / Mateo Mantilla: THE BRANCH

Submission #367 | Mateo Mantilla: THE BRANCH — “ The corner of Congress & Drayton St. (Savannah, GA) served as a parking lot located next to BB&T. The emptiness of this space made the surrounding buildings considerably bigger and heavier which made this side of Johnson Square a very uncomfortable place to be. The contrast between the lightness and comfort in the square and the heaviness of the site inspired this project, which has the intention to unify the opposing concepts of heaviness and lightness through its architecture and materiality.”

Submission #312 | Dan Whelan: The Vault, Transient Miner Town — “The Recent Mining Boom & the culture it has given rise to has been the cause of a number of issues in the existing towns in the Pilbara between local communities and transient workers. The intention was not to fix the problems of this transient worker culture but was simply to build a place separate from the local towns that would suit this strange fringe culture better.”

201_James Frolow: Lucidity

Submission #201 | James Frolow: Lucidity — "This task involved observing tango dancers and sketching the voids inbetween each figure. From this lines were manipulated in Rhinoceros to obscure  curved forms. These forms were then sliced to acquire a faceted object which could be interpreted as a building. Students were given a brief to place this object into the North Terrace context to serve as an architectural school for the University of Adelaide."

197_Nick Rossitch: Pool House

Submission #197 | Nick Rossitch: Pool House — "The concept for Pool House, a retreat home, comes from the pastime of playing billiards. It is derived from the path a pool ball takes on the billiards table. The idea is to have the interior circulation mimic a similar movement that a pool ball would take within the boundaries of this pure form of a cube as seen on the exterior of the structure."

144_Madeline Louise Nolan: Luminescence

Submission #144 | Madeline Louise Nolan: Luminescence — "The luminescent form taking influence from the traditional courtyard to develop the form of the apartment as if every room is built as a separate structure. Creating light filled apartments, aiming for interior spaces that feel exterior, giving each inhabitant their own space but making sure they always meet in the middle, through common space.

90_Sara Rad: The Allegory of Morality of Mankind in Occupying Spaces

Sara Rad: The Allegory of Morality of Mankind in Occupying Spaces — "The project considers Manhattan as a courtyard building not as a city. Manhattan is an island and central park is a huge courtyard, the buildings and towers are extruded to their maximum limit around it. A building that houses the extreme congestion and density in itself. The project talks about the morality of people; the way people occupy lands and spaces. The way they define their habitats and their cities."
