Allow nature to follow its process and reclaim its space. Introduce a new idea of resiliency that is not only related to the landscape but to the architecture and way to build itself.”
Submission #280 | Moritz Spaeh: Urban Farming — “The newly emerging commercial and industrial district is based on the former industrial area. In order to give the building in the north a representative address, the existing halls were demolished and the market hall was pushed between the existing buildings. From the east, a long, narrow lane leads to the market hall.”
Submission #235 | Wendy Chan: Sparkling Raspberry — "Modernization is a major challenge in many traditional cities over the world. With increasing population density, there is a need to introduce hyper-dense housing as well as public facilities to the preexisting heritage city. Conflicts associated with cultural, environmental transition and limited spaces commonly arise in the community."
Submission #182 | Sarah Wu Martinez: Co-Housing Architecture, An Urban Village — "In pursuing the answer to a simple, yet loaded question, “How can housing challenge the way we live in cities?”, Co-Housing Architecture investigates how architecture can become a catalyst in building communities and inspire human interactions of different scales. Co-housing, a Danish housing model whose dwellers own their units and share community spaces, has sporadically mushroomed across North American suburbia since the 80’s."
Submission #112 | Mo Faul: Tale of Two Cities — This was a 10 week studio project based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The first half of the studio focused on developing a schematic master plan for a specific area in San Juan that covers both entrances into the shantytown the site just outside of the old fortification wall. The challenge with this project was to honor both 'sides' of San Juan, the old colonial city (Old San Juan) and the shantytown (La Perla).
Submission #98 | Jose Lacruz Vela: Vallehermoso Market Rehabilitation — The project explores the conjunction between skin and use, through the restoration of an old market in Madrid. Undertaking the need of food production within cities, while generating a new public space, intertwined with a farm and an enclosed market.
Alex Varvar, Advita Madan, Emily McKenna, Zakaria Boucetta: Forresta Vasta — "Urban redesign of the raildeck in Toronto. Implementing a "vast forrest" with new urban form typologies across the cities skyline. Letting the architecture be influenced by the typologies of the trees and its structural diversity. This project was a group urban design project of “super- studio”. The whole semester is dedicat- ed in urban scale design projects and quick projects where we intervene with a logical concept for sites around Toronto."
Rahid Cornejo: Networked Infrastructures — The main idea was to take the area underneath Interstate 78 and use it as a means to bring these areas together by creating sculpture parks, agricultural harvesting, community gardens, and educational and artistic programs.
