Studio Ekphrasis from Chicago; “We are a digital nomadic collective interested in design through the process of ekphrarsis .As architects, we were trained at mies van der rohes iconic crown hall to translate ideas from one form to another. ekphrasis describes this intermedial phenomenon. we believe design should be practiced through conversion of inputs into outputs of virtually any medium (not just buildings).

We believe the beauty of ekphrasis is that cutting edge tools are required to catalyze the shift between two thresholds that result in synesthetic outputs. we are interested in everything and nothing to do with architecture.”

Name of Project: Harmony of the Spheres

Project Description: {input: dali} -> {output: pavilion} Harmony of the spheres is a proposal for the 2020 Burning Man gathering located at Black Rock City in Nevada, USA that will physically transform itself through the event. In Dali's work, the desert acts as a backdrop for absurd and imagined dimensions of life. Harmony of the Spheres is a surrealist installation that can be experienced three-dimensionally through reflected realities and kinetic structures by transforming itself through time and space directly translating Dali's DNA into an installation through the method of ekphrasis. Our mission is to challenge the perception of the universe through senses, play, and physics through synesthetic translations. By proposing weightless, ethereal, and amorphous artwork, Burners will question reality through the inability to capture this pavilion through a single image. This aims to design an effect through controlled states of interaction, however, the result of these elements is human-dependent. Harmony of the Spheres questions contemporary installations through the use of sustainable and reusable materials.
