Lenna Galanis

I am a graduate student at Florida International University. I completed my undergraduate studies at Judson University in Chicago, Illinois. My passion for architecture can be traced back to Rhodes, Greece, where I was born. I grew up next to Ancient Greek ruins and Medieval Castles. Architecture is an important component in my life because it serves a purpose, a use and can have the capability to improve people's lives.

Miami Beach Habitat

Currently 60% of the Miami/Dade County is comprised of immigrants. These immigrants come from all over the world and bring a piece of their culture, which makes Miami special. This Multi-function (commercial, cultural, residential) space will give the opportunity for immigrants to live and also own a small business in the same building, making Miami an even more diverse and exciting place.⠀ In order for these immigrants to flourish and promote their business, public spaces are very important. Therefore, public space is an integral component of the fabric of this multi/functional building. They give opportunities for people to receive support, knowledge and exchange connections. The perspective section gives 1 of many examples of how public spaces has driven the design of this building.
