Submission #209 | Kevin Garcia: The Isola Apartments — "The Isola Apartments is a Mixed-Use 104 unit residential project located in Salt Lake City, Utah.  “Isola” is an Italian word that is defined as an island or a set of islands, and can most notably be seen through the concept of having two building masses rising from the streets of Salt Lake City.  The building and site is designed to react to 3 main site considerations.  #1 Providing the area with much needed green and public space.  #2 Reacting to the adjacent UTA (Utah Public Transit System) and providing circulation space.  #3 Directing occupants towards views of downtown Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Mountain Range."

Submission #204 | Ellen Wong: Homonym Typology — "Within Homonym Typology, a suburban house is no longer an isolated entity, it engages with neighboring units to form a community. Each unit have common formation parts to spatial whole relationship. Each duplex is made up of two uniquely designed units which are fused together to create a set of relationships which the experience of duality of the unit is completed, the full function of a house is achieved through the connection."

Lian Ren and Shuo Yang: THE CORE — "THE CORE is a social housing project located in Bronx, New York. Our housing design explores the possibility to live in various cores in order to maximize density and light. All of these cores provide structural support for all the floor structure, which is waffle slabs. The public cores are located in the center of each block to connect all the unit cores on the four sides. All the unit cores are very densely placed near the perimeter to allow for more sunlight and cross ventilation."

Kaley Overstreet, Kyle Zook, Enio Dajko: Animal House — Our project, situated on the corner of 135th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue in Harlem, NY, explores a voyeuristic idea of how life in New York City acts as a “sitcom” performance within an 8-unit apartment complex. By using animals or various sizes as a parti of scale, we were able to create identifiable units that differ in size, location within the building, and match the personified traits and possessions of each animal.
