Both were caused by neglect during the communist era and the persistent, blocking, political crisis, as well as by the steady, speculative real estate market.”

We have removed all the borders and class divisions that are usual in nowadays school and instead of that we have merged the learning spaces by defining different zones on the basis of the age of the children.”

The pavilion explores the idea of implied functionality. Something that might happen but doesn’t have a fixed definition. For instance, it is a space for exhibitions, but it is not a museum; it is a space with scenographic features for performances, but it is not a theater; it is a space for dinning and social encounter, but it is not a cafe nor a restaurant."

The city’s attachment to the Catholic Church is undeniable, and its evolutionary reliance on it was unmatched. In addition to embodying urban monumentality and punctuating the built environment, the presence of the city’s religious patrimony throughout the urban landscape bore witness to the Church’s importance in all aspects of life – transcending spirituality and religion to deal with social, cultural and political issues."
Submission #172 | Jerome Lai: McGill Architecture — "He creates an 'urban condenser': a 1000x150m platform, aiming to replace the traditional fabric of streets and city blocks. It hosts residences, offices, a campus and recreational spaces. He envisions that the multiplicity and complexity of programmatic interactions relieve users from the fundamental need for space outside the platform. In the end, the platform becomes the city itself."
Submission #149 | Gabriel Gomes, Giulia Chagas, Taissa Assis: Porto 247 — "Located in the revitalized Port Area of io de Janeiro, the land is positioned in an area of any challenges. The first question is memory and heritage, which historic houses give life to a population that has lived there for generations. The second major issue is the uncertain future of the region with all the transformation process that has been taking place in recent years."

Submission #113 | Mitran Kiandee: Reinventing Southland — Using a fictional narrative, this project considers the opportunities of injecting a social presence of fresh food production into existing carpark structures that engulfs Southland Shopping Mall in Melbourne.
Submission #106 | Christiana Pitsillidou and Biljana Kašule Nikolić: Hyphen City — Those are the very initial ideas of the eight films under study, which further explore its site less qualities depending on their level of fiction, speed and psychogeography. Given that the river’s visual history is extraordinarily experienced at certain speeds and environments; the space of the Los Angeles River has been plot-mapped and observed through hyphen speculations varied from real to fictional scenarios of fragments.
Stepan Nesterenko: Whale–House — The project is a spatial critical speculation, partly based on the entrance situation of the reference — House Rudin by H&deM, and the given dimensions of two interacting volumes — one public and one private, set together to examine the relation of different oppositions: inside / outside, private / public, positive / negative space.
Hans Steffes: Retail Ruin — A retail project for designer Issey Miyake including show rooms, shops and presentation spaces. The project is a speculative exploration on the urban fabric of Houston, Texas; a city whose lack of zoning laws has resulted in a fragmented aggregation of spaces, districts and functions.
Edward Radev: Homi(num)reditus — The gallery spaces from the original proposal and new proposal will intertwine to create a transition between two worlds. The academy itself is set in the near future where extraterrestrial life is being explored. The academy being a center for research of extraterrestrial plant species and how they can be used to create architecture that can be grown.
Natalie Bezarashvili: Palace of Congestion — Skyrise located in urban jungle and its residents squeeze into an even smaller area: much of the territory is so mountainous it is impossible to build on. As it is known the birds have so called sky lands and sky highways, where they can fly or even feel home. With limited space to grow outwards, Metropolis has been expanding upwards for decades, and now has more skyscrapers than New York or Hong Kong in the very midst of 2020s.
Arooj Ahmad and Georgia Ntoukaki: Lost Memories of Glasgow — The project is essentially an exploration into the memories left behind by buildings that are now derelict, under-used and ignored. How architecture today can capture the essence of the spaces and meanings behind those spaces and convey them in a different manner to inspire a connection between people and the place they inhabit was the key idea.
