Submission #388 | Arian Saghafifar and Ali Sader: Deira Urban Market — “Understanding the Urban Market: Urban agriculture is a social movement for sustainable communities, where organic growers, foodies, and locavores form social networks founded on a shared ethos of nature and community. Many people are looking for food security, nutrition, and income generation which are key motivations for urban agriculture and local markets.”
Submission #378 | Gregory Rendon Jr: Infill Housing — “Located in the historic district of Savannah, Georgia, the objective was to create an apartment complex, garden & carriage house on a corner lot. This project was developed from two main concepts. The primary concept is using a dynamic built-in structure to mold furniture and create unique spacial conditions. The scheme of this design is folding a monolithic plane to serve multiple functions while removing the interpretation of what is a floor, wall, and roof. The second concept is a vertical public space that resides in the interior of the building. Illuminated by a system of skylights from above, this serves as the anchor of the social space while also illuminating the units with natural light through the interior. Materiality was carefully chosen to maintain the urban fabric while introducing a contemporary building.”
Submission #369 | Osman Ural: A New "Square Deal": For the "Soul" of East Harlem's Social Housing Projects — “The location of the proposal is in East Harlem, a project called the King Towers. This neighborhood has major issues with crime, air quality, and poverty, all while existing at the corner of Central Park - literally the spatial realization of social inequality. The site has a repetitive tower typology that is typical of NYC social housing, and therefore could act as a blueprint for other projects in the city. The single large public space also makes a proposal more flexible to implement.”

Submission #354 | Jakob Krauss, Alexander Jerosch-Herold, Micha Kretschmann: Stadthaus Bonn — “As the former capital of West Germany, Bonn is one of many European cities faced with the question of how to reurbanise itself. But what do we mean when we talk about reurbanisation? In our work, we interpret »reurbanisation« as the endeavor to reintegrate the functionally segregated city and the coexistence within it that have been lost as a result. In Bonns’ topographical and administrative heart lies the »Stadthaus« [City Hall].”

Good schools and education environment would be the key to the social and economic development of a place through preparing the future human resources. In other words, how can we expand our society and improve it if we cannot dilate our own minds?”
Submission #332 | Rana El Dakkak: Soul Treat — “The design concept of the project was mainly inspired by a natural element as nature has a strong relationship with the human’s well-being. The natural inspiration for Soul Treat design concept was the tree leaves. The project’s site has different types of trees and each tree has different leaves shape; this triggered the idea of the natural inspiration for this project.”
Submission #328 | Fariz Azahar: Living Monument: Sentient City for a Post-Socialist Proletariat — “There was a time when humans longed for absolute unification, terminating class antagonism and campaigning for social status emancipation. A series of liberating acts hurled by a revolutionary society who fought in the name of equality, in both powers and rights. Overcoming global metamorphosis, they prevailed and implemented a new fundamental in the social system through methodology of horizontal society, an antithesis to the patriarchal governing system that has been second nature to men since the primordial times.”
Submission #272 | Binhan Wang; Adaptable 12L Plus — “In this housing project, I intended to address a strong urban conflict between fixed housing structures and dynamic populations by designing an adaptable social housing. During the site visit, I have interviewed the residents living on my site and found that the majority of them are migrant workers. As their population flow is very dynamic, they would require more flexible spaces to satisfy their changing needs.”

In most cases the relation and correlation of buildings are more important than the dynamism and interaction of the human in public spaces."
Submission #206 | Andrea Bulloni, Ilaria Belotti, Marco Papagni: TEXTILIA — "TEXTILIA is the memory of a recent manufacturing past. The Schiatti company, has had for years a key role in Lentate community and is deeply rooted in the heart of every citizen. The quality of its textile production finds voice in TEXTILIA: as the Jacquard loom wove strings of silk to get an extraordinary weft, the project intersects several functions, public spaces, private and commercial, to achieve a high quality of living.

Submission #120 | Kerem Yesildag, Nisan Baskin, Beyza Avci and Buğra Eser: Research & Development Institute — The rural site is a heavy crowded urban settlement with insufficient informal housing. The local people lack basic needs as; clean water, sanitation, durability, and housing space and permits. What we as architects can do is provoke social change. What we can do about is the living areas.
Submission #118 | Koh Jhee Son: Affordable Housing Incorporating Farming and Market for Social Symbiosis — The design project aims to introduce social role of affordable housing in urban context as a strategy to seek understanding and interest among government and developers. The origin of the issue is the weak quality provision of affordable housing in the urban development. In order to improve the quality of housing for the poorer community, the provider of the housing (government and developers) need to see the benefit of investing concerning social and economic purpose.

Submission #100 | Zack Caplette: Mobility LAb, Activating LA's Public Realm — The City of Los Angeles can no longer expand beyond the amorphic boundaries of its sprawling urban fabric. As a result of this, the post-war suburbanized city is slowly beginning to address its public realm.
Lian Ren and Shuo Yang: THE CORE — "THE CORE is a social housing project located in Bronx, New York. Our housing design explores the possibility to live in various cores in order to maximize density and light. All of these cores provide structural support for all the floor structure, which is waffle slabs. The public cores are located in the center of each block to connect all the unit cores on the four sides. All the unit cores are very densely placed near the perimeter to allow for more sunlight and cross ventilation."
