Submission #357 | Andreas Tsenis: Rural Town Community Wellness Center — “A proposed support center for a rural town in Northern Michigan. The support center embraces the use of layers or skins that form spaces and add a level of transparency to each space that can adopt to the different needs of the spaces. The integrated seating in the structures allows the user to observe and receive the environment in which it is situated in.”
Submission #159 | Adrian Wong: Each Piece Not Sold Separately — Through an ensemble of figures, this thesis explores heterogeneous configurations in architecture through a dialectic between new and old, figural and monolithic, post-industrial and rural. Located on the outskirts of Bologna, this project sits on top of an existing factory with expressive structure reminiscent of Nervi’s Paper Factory in Mantua.
Submission #135 | Stanley Tan Hanjie: The Lot — "The Lot: Communal Social Housing Scheme for a Garden Community and Farmers’ Market. The project studies the theme of urban-suburbanisation, calculated efficiency of a self-sustainable urban infrastructure and the design of a rural retreat. Living units are integrated into a living canopy which is used to grow organic vegetables and also works as a rainwater harvester and irrigation system. A food market is also provided for the public."
Submission #120 | Kerem Yesildag, Nisan Baskin, Beyza Avci and Buğra Eser: Research & Development Institute — The rural site is a heavy crowded urban settlement with insufficient informal housing. The local people lack basic needs as; clean water, sanitation, durability, and housing space and permits. What we as architects can do is provoke social change. What we can do about is the living areas.
