Submission #162 | Connor Gravelle — "Our cultural moment might be described as one of intense self-reflection, foregrounding questions of identity and what it means to belong in any particular context. This problematizes the architecture as a transcriptive discipline for identifying, materializing and, most importantly, defining the ideological conditions of given contexts, cultures and programs. This extension to an existing art museum in Lima, Peru, takes to task preservation for its immediate engagement with identity and its potentials to offer challenges and ruminations on the nature of cultural identity.
Submission #152 | Tiakum Ao: Beacon — "Located along the south side of the Arno River in Florence Italy, the proposed waterfront projects can be seen as beacons, attracting residents and tourists alike. Circulating pedestrians from the dense north to the more tranquil south. Translucent panels rise around the facade illustrating lightshows, and interactive play. Qualities of heavy and light are characterized with the use of light steel framing, and heavy translucent program.
Submission #145 | Cameron Fullmer: Polar Flux — "This project was completed as a part of the Arctic Design Group (ADG) traveling studio in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway; the northern-most permanent settlement in the world. Under the pilotage of Dr. Matthew Jull and Leena Cho (founders of ADG and Kutonotuk), I studied the conditions of coastal material fluctuation, permafrost resilience, and seasonal accessibility: all defining factors in Arctic urbanism."
Submission #139 | Khalid Al-Tamimi and Nasser Ghannam: Almost Natural — "Almost Natural attempts to explore the production of space and aesthetics in the Anthropocene through blurring between the natural and the synthetic. The Anthropocene is the new geological era that has emerged out of the unprecedented influence the human race continues to have on the planet’s ecology."
Submission #132 | Eric Kuczek and Eric Kelly: Ecke Stadt — "In an attempt to cater to the surrounding context (people, place, climate) Ecke Stadt will instill a hub that provides accessible, openness to public and private working environments. A seamless integration with the architectural geometry allows for an urban experience on the ground level. Transparencies employed throughout the building celebrate the harmonious separation of program. "
Submission #126 | Patrick Linder, Liz Szatko, Tyler Whitney, Siobhan Klinkenberg: Flex Flats — FlexFlats was a submission for the Institutions Studio at Taubman College in collaboration with Maurice Cox the Planning Director for the City of Detroit for various Pink Zones around the City of Detroit.
Submission #107 | Houman Khosravi: Music for Housing — "The first exercise of of the semester was to craft a conceptual construct based on design intuition as well as my preconceived notions and views of London. Using mechanical found objects, I created three scenarios to build off of, each would become its own construct."
Andres Roncal: Grand Hall Freshman Dormitory — "The proposed program is meant to burst the bubble in which Pratt students are forced to live in and give public space back to the landscape of the city. By mapping the public parks around the area it became evident that there were only two public parks available to the immediate community. Fort Green Public Park and Pratt Institute's Sculpture Park; the latter gated and limited to no public access. This segregation was reflected in the lack of understanding for the students to their surroundings which then increased the naive self exposure to crime in the area."
Sawinya Chavanich: Iridescent Light — Iridescent Light is the project that is trying to explore the relationship between hybrid objects and lighting conditions. Each piece of small object is deliberately selected, transformed and adjusted to create the harmony and iridescent phenomena effect.
