Submission #383 | Priyanka Mukherjee: Linguistic Labyrinth — “The lack of information on the origin of languages leads to the necessity of preservation center, lack of knowledge and data on the languages leads to the necessity of research center, the lack of the system of derivation leads to the necessity of conservation center and the lack of awareness on this field leads to the necessity of a learning center, library, museum, exhibition, and gallery.”
Submission #308 | Tiago Vasconcelos: Permabioreactor — “Climate change is only exacerbating this challenge; as increasing temperatures and oceanic acidification are causing large shifts in migratory patterns of animals and reduction of fish populations; making these subsistent sources increasingly difficult to come by for Native peoples. Additionally, elevating temperatures are causing widespread permafrost thaw; wreaking structural havoc and greenhouse gas emissions.”
Submission #307 | Paolo Boldi: Delta Aquarium — “Located in the Colombian city of Santa Marta, an important commercial and touristic center as well as the most antique city of Colombia, the project is part of an urban intervention of reestablishment and restitution of a wide city portion nowadays used as a military base. This area represents a great opportunity as it constitutes the perfect union between four different scenarios.”
Submission #287 | Robin Andreas Koch: THE BRAIN — “A proposal for the new main library of the city. It includes a huge self functional high bay warehouse which saves up to millions of books. Full automatically robots grab the books and pass it to the visitors if they want to. The main design of this library work with a completely new way of thinking how a library can work.”
Submission #267 | Elise Francis: Santuario alle Edicole Votive — “Secret Genoa waits patiently to be discovered. Over an eight-month period I have endeavored to explore Genoa’s well-kept (and sometimes unkempt) treasures. My design methodology is an architectural form of narrative collage inspired by the writing of Italo Calvino and Bruno Schulz. The city is understood as a dense space of intertwined and overlapping stories that can be (re)written using alternative narratives that reveal essential qualities of the city without relying on what may be considered strictly factual.”
Submission #233 | Madeline Nolan: Expanding Augmentation — "Seattle Central Library redefines the library, no longer exclusively dedicated to the book, but as an information store where all potent forms of media are presented, creating a civic space for the circulation of knowledge in all media."
Submission #142 | Jun Sho: The Library of Jail — "This idea is inspired by the Pudu Jail which is located near to the site and now it was destroyed a few years ago. The initial idea is to provide a jail and trap visitors inside and feed them with knowledge. The design intent of this project is to create a library to celebrate the jail and provide the reference books which are related to the jail, for example, the jail architecture, criminal phycology and criminal law to the visitors."
Submission #104 | Luis Fernando Munoz and Julia Eve Pen: Bubbles — The dictionary defines diversity as the quality or state of having many different forms, types and ideas, but in reality diversity exists in much more complex forms. There is cultural diversity, diversity of thought, diversity of origin, the list grows, and the way diversity is perceived is equally complex. In the context of Texas A&M University there have been initiatives to put diversity at the forefront of the school’s agenda.
Jorge Somarriba: Miami Beach, Lincoln Road Library Proposal — "Lincoln Road library was developed as a means to solve for the end of the Lincoln Road strip mall plaza."
Pankhuri Malhotra: Muwaileh Public Library — This project aimed at introducing a new construct into the urban fabric of an otherwise mundane setting. Since each building on the given site followed the same typology, my approach was to ensure that the visitors of the library enjoyed an internalised experience and this was achieved by using perforated bricks.
Daniel Rebolledo: Nuevo Circo de Caracas — This was an academic project that was set on a historic landmark which is the Nuevo Circo de Caracas, and old slaughter house in the late 19th century, and was refurbished and transformed into the new bull fighting ring and biggest venue place in the early 20th century. The building was abandoned for several years as bull fighting became less popular over time.
