385 / Staś Gulkowski and Burcu Doğruyol: HOME

Submission #385 | Staś Gulkowski and Burcu Doğruyol: HOME — “During these unprecedented times, for the first time, we all share a similar experience of adjusting to the new realities of our everyday life. We are used to expanding our world through exploring the city around us, taking part in the collective activities that are going on in it, or simply getting to know people in the community. Contrarily, today’s conditions require us to sustain our needs and pleasures within the walls of our house. Being limited by these boundaries as well as transforming that limitation into countless opportunities is part of the experience.”

337 / Ireny Abrahim: MWO (Multi Worker's Occupancy)

Submission #337 | Ireny Abrahim: MWO (Multi Worker's Occupancy) — “This studio was about Home Economics, understanding housing in different scales. This housing project focused on worker's housing by understanding the current living conditions in a worker's household. In the current state of a worker's housing around the world, workers feel forced to live within their work sites. This creates a segregation between low and high income workers. Within San Francisco, being one of the most expensive cities in the world, especially in the SoMa district most workers are either migrant or immigrants who live where they work.”

281_Marco Nieto: Ashes to Ashes

Submission #281 | Marco Nieto: Ashes to Ashes — “My proposal seeks to create a permanent and spiritual fixture in the fabric of the ever-changing and ethereal festival that is Burning Man, reinventing its identity. This will be done by integrating the process and materiality of ash, utilizing its sustainable potential and intimate meaning to those who participate to create a new program that melds industry and institution, creating a familiar yet foreign sight in the middle of the desert.”

156_Bakavou Vasiliki: Typologies_living-working

Submission #156 | Bakavou Vasiliki: Typologies_living-working — "Due to the evolution of technology, which brought the concept of working from home, flexibility on working hours, great reduction of the necessary working space and easier transmutation of any space to a workplace, the traditional notion of “home” gets radically altered. It is transforming from a detached shelter to a versatile, adjustable space. In such a system the limit between the private(live) and the public(work) sphere becomes increasingly blurry, causing them to co-exist in several occasions."

61_Austin Madrigale: The Digital Misfit

Austin Madrigale: The Digital Misfit — This studio deals with indexicality and translations from analog to digital and the study of a mid century modern home and a dress by fashion designer Issey Miyake. My project is about the effects of data translation and the use of the glitch as representation to create a programmatic commentary that engages in a new speculation on reality.
