There is cultural diversity, diversity of thought, diversity of origin, the list grows, and the way diversity is perceived is equally complex. In the context of Texas A&M University there have been initiatives to put diversity at the forefront of the school’s agenda.
Jamison Sweat: Death of the Detail — "With the removal of the joint, more specifically, in the discourse of contemporary architecture, surface continuity and the diagram reign supreme. Jointless modernist organisms work so hard to detail in ways that hide the actual mechanics and ontological condensation of how buildings come into being. Tectonic is described in two realms, one pertaining to ontology, or how things come into being, and the other as representational, or the representation of a constructional element, which is present, but hidden."
Hans Steffes: Retail Ruin — A retail project for designer Issey Miyake including show rooms, shops and presentation spaces. The project is a speculative exploration on the urban fabric of Houston, Texas; a city whose lack of zoning laws has resulted in a fragmented aggregation of spaces, districts and functions.
