The New (in)Formal: Vertical Village Habitat (Thesis Project)
The ‘Vertical Village Habitat’ is a conceptual supposition addressing the issues of urban density and pollution. Conceived as a high-rise microcosm of the city, the habitat is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, one of the most densely populated cities in the world, with over 17 million people. On average, 48 people arrive at the city every hour, adding stress to an already stretched infrastructure. 50-60% of the population live in informal settlements. Like a filter for the city, the mega-structure continuously evolves incrementally to accommodate, shelter and sustain.
